Full Cover Tip Workshops | Meet Courtney

Say hello to Courtney, a CALGEL PRO we've partnered with to host our Full Cover Tip Workshops.  The first of three workshops launched today in Milton Keynes, with two more dates in Solihull & Nottingham around the corner!

We approached Courtney about hosting these workshops after one of our Roadshows where Courtney demonstrated the tips and we spotted her natural talent for teaching...

I’m Courtney, I’m 34 years old and a single mum of two. I work from my home salon mostly doing nails alongside a few other treatments. I’m a self- confessed nail addict and I’m just in the process of expanding my business to a nail cabin in the garden so I have more space.

Why the nail industry?

I started my career just under 10 years ago. I was really struggling to work a 9 to 5 job and juggling two small children. I have always had a big interest in the nail industry and have always had my nails done. I never thought I would be good enough to build my own business and make it a success. In May 2011, I decided to bite the bullet and do it. I trained up with a company and started my career.

Why Izabelle Hammon and Calgel?

A couple of years later, I wanted to add another brand and was on the search for around a year to find the perfect one that would fit in with what I already offered. That was when I found Izabelle Hammon, I knew straight away that it was the brand for me!

I loved that it was a one-step true gel system and the colour choices were insane, I’d never used a gel that was so bold and pigmented! Not forgetting the help and advice from all the great team when I was enquiring and training. I reached out and booked my training around 6 years ago now and have never looked back.

What do you love most about being a nail tech?

What I love most about what I do is the creativity of it all, you can turn any inspiration into nail art. Even a fresh, clean, beautiful plain colour can say so much about someone and their personality!

It's such a rewarding job; you never stop learning new skills and gaining from it.

It’s also more than just nails and creativity. I love meeting new people all the time and building relationships with my clients. Sometimes you are lucky enough to develop amazing new friends with your clients and other nail techs in the industry.

Do you have any words of advice for those new to the industry?

My advice would be to never give up, push and push, train and train. Always accept help and advice and never be afraid to ask for it from other professionals.  No matter how big or small the question is, we are all here for each other. It does get hard, but we have all thought about throwing our gel brushes out the window and giving up. You’re not alone. When you get to where you want to be or create what you've been practicing for its so rewarding and makes everything you’ve worked so hard for, worth it.

What are your favourite nail art looks to create?

My favourites at the moment are tie-dye and tortoise shell. I wanted to try tortoise shell but never thought I’d be able to do it as it looked too hard, but my clients were desperate for it and pushed me to give it a go. I’m so glad I got practising as they’ve turned out great (I even shocked myself).

What inspires your creativity?

I find my inspiration everywhere, from other nail techs in the industry to daily life things like wrapping paper, book fronts, backgrounds on screen savers, clothes and scenery. Inspiration is everywhere! If you see it, take a photo and I guarantee you can bring it to life on a set of nails.

What are you most looking forward to about running the Full Cover Tip Workshops?

I'm so excited to be running the workshops as I absolutely love the Full Coverage Tips, they are a complete game changer to the nail industry and look perfect and so natural. They really do cut any enhancement time down to minutes without any damage to the natural nails.

I cannot wait to share all my skills and tips with everyone. Never in a million years did I think I would reach a point in my career where I would be teaching; I'm so grateful to have been asked to be on board with the Izabelle Hammon family.

I can't wait to meet you all.

Lots of love, Courtney xx
