Meet Gemma. W - Talent Team Founding Member

Can you introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your nail journey?

My name is Gemma and I’m a gel nail tech from Inverness in the Highlands of Scotland.

I trained in nails 11 years ago and have exclusively used Izabelle Hammon products since day 1 of my nail journey.

I became an educator for Izabelle Hammon in 2016 and spent 9 fabulous years doing this.

What inspired you to become a nail technician?

There was a lack of nail techs in my area when I decided nails was a career I’d like to pursue. With that in mind and a desire to work at home for a more flexible working pattern around my 3 children and husband that works away, I started up my at-home salon, Be Gelicious Nails.

What inspires your work / creativity?

When I first started out, I was inspired by nail techs that produced flawless plain colour nails, the kind of nails that you’re wowed by despite not having any kind of art or design.

As the time, and gel products moved on, I became more drawn to builder gels and minimalist nail art. You don’t need to be an insane artist to create a stunning set of nails. And now I find the majority of the service I do is builder gel with a little something. This is definitely my happy place and niche.

What advice would you give someone new to the industry?

The best advice I’d give anyone starting out in nails is don’t run before you can walk! Master the basics, take your time and the rest will follow.

What does being a part of The Talent Team mean to you?

I feel so honoured to have been asked to join the IH Talent Team, I was heartbroken to step down from my role as educator due to my family commitments at the moment, so this keeps me in the family and inspires me to keep producing my best work that can hopefully inspire other IH techs.

What do you hope to bring to our community of nail techs and enthusiasts?

I would love to bring love and passion to our ever-expanding builder gel range to all the existing IH techs out there, that maybe are not confident with the range.

How do you use social media to connect with your audience and showcase your work?

I’m definitely a picture dominant tech when it comes to social media but am looking forward to modernising this with reels, TikTok and more! Thank goodness I have teenage children! Can’t wait to share my journey of this with you all!
